The rehabilitation project of the roofs and façades of the Palace of Marquês de Pombal (Oeiras, Portugal) was carried out between 2020 and 2021. Among the various restoration works, the installation of geodrains around the building’s façades was particularly noteworthy.
This intervention required the execution of two archaeological surveys and the archaeological supervision of the trenching process for the geodrains installation.
Despite the shallow depth of the trenches, a significant amount of archaeological material and structures emerged. This demonstrates the archaeological potential of the site.
Along with the palace designation as a National Monument, its importance is further enhanced by the archaeological remains identified, from the prehistoric period to the contemporary era.
